It's only a small town but they love the tourists. I stayed at the RV camp ground right on the bank of the creek. I was happy as I had full phone coverage and grass and water.
I enjoyed it there as it was very relaxing so I stayed for three days.
I received a call from my old mate Graeme Rudd. He has been following my blog and was able to see I was in the area. He said "We're at the Pub, come up". How great was that.
Graeme and Leslie and I have been friends for a long time now and we reminisced about the great times back in the 80's when we used to go 4 wheel driving together. I would ring Graeme up on Sunday morning and ask if he wanted to go star trekking. (we called it that because the kids used to sing "Star trekking, across the universe, we're only going forward cause we can't find reverse). Graeme would always have too much to do at home and decline. Half hour later he would ring and say "are you ready, I'm all packed let's go, (never failed)
We never knew where we were going just drove through the roughest tracks until we found a great picnic spot and spend too much time there. but we had a lot of fun.
One Easter we headed to Victoria (no virus then) and camped. We did a pretty bad river crossing and immediately climbed straight up a bloody big mountain. It was very steep and rough and Leslie and Wendy (my x) were constantly talking to each other on the CB radio. One of them said, "Gee the old boobs are nearly hitting the roof". They both laughed and commented about that when some other woman came on saying "I know how you feel girls". They never said another word. That was funny.
Of course our kids all got along great too, what great times and so many stories to tell.
They were travelling with friends here (not like me) (got none) Bob and Lorraine Tierney and Bruce Findley. They all came around to my van the next day and we had another great chat, How good was that.
gee they were such lovely people, I bet they thought the same about me??? (How come they went the other way?)
Julia and the old Creek
Julia Creek to Cloncurry
1/9
Headed out of Julia Creek and drove to Cloncurrie. I was getting itchy feet to have a game of golf and entered the address in the GPS. After driving around in circles for a fair while and arguing with the GPS man I finally asked a local. There is no golf course at Cloncurry anymore. Doh!
One thing I was happy about was the terrain started to change, I was in the ranges now, I was excited to see my first hill for, I can't remember when.
Walked around town, took a few photo's for you but only one of the Pub turned out (sorry about that).
It was still early so I headed towards Mt Isa. Halfway I turned off to Corella Dam (428 Camps 10 book) What a great place, so great to see clear water, trees and hills.
I only stayed one night as I was completely out of food. For tea I made pizzas with the only things I had left. You know, they were really great. Small can of tuna, last of sauce, last bit of tasty cheese and olives that Di had given me, so great I took a photo to show you.. (Those olives were from an olive farm and they are so full of flavor, thanks Di.)
It was funny that night, I was sitting outside relaxing in my shouts and T shirt and others were sitting around fires and wrapped up in coats, beanie's and gloves etc. It was early evening and 23*. I got my camera out and zoomed in as I knew you wouldn't believe me. They were from Brisbane and Bowen. A lot of others were doing the same. a couple next to me went to a lot of trouble moving a pile of rocks and dragging wood to finally settle down in their chairs some 20ft away from the fire. They were also from Brisbane and living full time in their van. They told me about their walk that morning and how they came across a heap of freshwater crocks in the next cove. Next morning I went for the same walk and seen nil. When I came back I said to them "you told me a load of crock". But nice people and we chatted for quite awhile. But the walk was good and the scenery fantastic. Of course I took heaps of shots and I'll only show you a fraction of them otherwise I'll bore you.
Yippee a hill at last
Great to see some hills

The scenery was much the same from Cloncurry to Mt Isa as you would have seen in the previous photo gallery,. so lovely.
When you come into town the first thing you notice is the mine, right in town.
I stayed at the sunset caravan park as I was told by a few that it can be a bit rough and there is nowhere else. I had a lot to do and some shopping etc. but first I had to check out the golf course.
A bit of a shock because all the surrounding landscape is rough. But it's flat and looked great, game on tomorrow.

I had another game this morning after packing up from the caravan park. I maybe hitting the road this afternoon and head for Camooweal. I'm going to meet up with a couple I meet at the park. We are both planning on heading into Northern Territory and at this stage it looks ok to go but we'll see.
I don't know when I'll have reception again but hopefully I'll manage to do another section soon.
Bye for now my friends.
PS. Gary Hunt only had 17 points at Narooma Golf yesterday. He is absolutely hopeless without.me. Just saying.
