I hung around Geraldton for 5 days and attended to a few needs like new tyres and a few games of golf on the two great courses. It is very green around here and a pleasure to see after so much brown.
I headed North and stayed at Lynton Station for one night and ended up staying there for a week. The host, Jenny is nearly as mad a golf nut as I am. She has a golf tee at the top of a hill overlooking the camp and a rough green way down below. She came and made me go and hit a bucket of balls every night.
Had lots of happy hour drinks with quiet a few other happy campers too.
It was a stone throw from the pink lake which is absolutely stunning on a clear day. Also 100k's from Kalbarri and Kalbarri National Park. Also Gregory sits between the lake and the sea only 5 k's away. It was interesting that in 1942 a German sub torpedoed this little village. Of the 10 shells fired caused no damage and was not noticed until a week later when a radio signal was decoded a week later. (what were they thinking?).
Kalbarri NP has two skywalks that are pretty impressive and I wondered if the ravine they placed it was worth the expense. I think the structure is more photogenic than the view. But great all the same.
And of course a cyclone went through all this area and Kalbarri copped it hard. The poor old golf course lost all it's trees.
A few camps later I stopped at Whalebone Bay. That's the photo above. Very relaxing but you can only stay there one night. So I ended up in Denham for a couple of nights. and did some touring around the area and managed to play some golf again.
When coming into this peninsula it was the end of the school holidays and the amount of caravans going home was crazy. Actually there are more caravans on the roads over here then I have seen anywhere.
Next stop I met up with some family, yahoo! Caught up with my sister Kay and husband Gary at Gladstone camp ground. Had a lovely three days together, even mini golf and lovelly arteisian showers. Sad to leave them, thanks guys.
I'm now heading uo towards Coral Bay and Exmouth. Actually every thing is booked out here for over a month, but I have found something, Girallia Station. Maybe good fishing there.
See ya soon.
Regards Doug
