Driving South from Harvey Bay I finally decided to head for Towoomba and catch up with my cousin Norman, but unfortunately that didn’t work out. So I just enjoyed the great countryside and all the beautiful jackaranda's all throughout Toowoomba.
I noticed a nasty mark on the back of my shoulder that I defiantly new I needed to see a Doctor about. I called into Warwick Hospital on the Sunday and waited and waited…. I wore a pair of shorts and T shirt as it was hot outside and so lovely and cool in the waiting room. But sitting there for several hours I was freezing. And my phone went flat after playing games and there are no magazines to read, and I hadn’t eaten since breakfast so I was also starving, so all I could do was walk up and down to try and keep warm.
I was so glad when they finally called my name they must have thought I’d won the lottery.
The Doctor was great and he said it was a Basal cell carcinoma, (a slow growing cancer). He said get it cut out as soon as you can but it would be OK to go home and get that done.
So this has changed my plans and I’ll now head home but still enjoy my trip all the same.
That night I caught up with some friends at a winery and we had a good wine session. I must have got a bad batch as I fell over a couple of times and felt a bit crook next morning (I’ll never buy their wines again).
I got to Glen Innes and had a good look around town and enjoyed Stone Hedge. It is interesting that the stones are set as a compos with markings for the Winter and Summer sunsets and rises. They have even cut a tunnel in the trees for the sun to shine through. I enjoyed Glenn Innes’s lovely main street too.
At Coonabarabran I headed off into Warrumbungle National Park and how great was that place. I stayed for a couple of days and as usual hit some walking trails. I’ll let the photo’s tell the story but I really loved it there.
I stayed around Parkes and Forbes for a few days and caught up with relies Robyn & John Davis (Thanks for your lovely hospitality). I played golf at both Parks and Forbes. It was the hottest I had struck it so far on this trip, (over 40*)
Headed towards Canberra hoping to catch up with my granddaughter
Chelsea, but once again, that didn’t work out either. So I cruised on through Cooma and down to Yarrangobilly River near Kiandra. (one of my favorite camps). Then onto Blowering dam and indulged in a spot of fishing where I nearly got a bite!
I then camped at Tumut River and one of my best and favourite camps called Jones Bridge. I've stayed here a few times before and it’s really nice. I stayed for five days whilst I attended my Doctor in Tumut and had that thing cut out of my shoulder. (No, it wasn't a chip.) I need to hang around here for awhile and have further tests and treatment, but all’s good with that and I’m doing fine.
I’m now back at Tumbarumba enjoying some fantastic family time and enjoying the great time with my two grand daughters. Grand kids are so special and they mean soooo much to me.
I’ll be staying here over Christmas before maybe venturing to some other unknown destination.
So it maybe awhile before my next post. Maybe I deserve a break, but I'll miss you all just the same.
Merry Christmas to you all and you’ll here from me maybe in the New Year.
Your friend
Doug.
